Our people are our foundation

Headshot of Laurent Fontaine

“We are global on a human scale. We are a family.”

Laurent Fontaine, Senior Manager, Finance & Accounting

Although personal ties lured Laurent Fontaine from the volcanic Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean to the concrete jungle of Manhattan, a professional opportunity to leverage his language skills and work across various regions and cultures has kept him in New York. A key member of McCourt Global’s accounting team, he translates financial matters between France, the US, and beyond. “We are not just an American company that works in France. “We are truly global,” explains Laurent, citing international senior leadership and ever-expanding investments worldwide.

Fast growth across the board

Known for his work ethic and geniality, the financial analyst propelled to senior manager in just a year and a half with expanding responsibilities – “the fastest growth” he’s experienced during his career. Because MG is in “perpetual evolution,” Laurent is constantly learning and exploring new issue areas. Consequently, when reflecting on his career path, he notes, “I’ve grown the most at McCourt Global, professionally and personally, and enjoy working here more than any other company.”

At the heart of the action

Laurent appreciates MG’s collaborative spirit and culture in which he “can speak to everyone” regardless of their role or location. Thanks to the confidence instilled by CFO Joe Riley, Laurent and his colleagues in McCourt Global’s Finance & Accounting team enjoy the benefits of collaboration and the perspective that comes from working across multiple functions.  “I feel at the heart of the action, not the bottom rung of the ladder,” raves Laurent. “We are results-driven, rather than results at any cost, and that inspires dedication.”

Headshot of Sarah Schrift

“I work with the best people.”

Sarah Schrift, Executive Assistant

Highly resourceful executive assistant and accomplished artist, Sarah Schrift creatively tackles any task that comes her way, making her an ideal match for the fast pace at McCourt Global. After managing high-profile offices and executives in a variety of fields, she “is here for the people,” having “won the lotto” when it comes to her bosses. The Midwesterner also appreciates the tone set by the company’s founder and executive chairman, Frank McCourt, who “knows everyone in the room,” creating a trickle-down culture of respect, generosity, and kindness.

Diversity across the board

Sarah is “so inspired by the diverse backgrounds at MG” and the exposure to new subjects and people. Galvanized by the opportunity for constant learning, Sarah enjoys working across all aspects of the company. Ever the culture-carrier, she bridges connections in-person and virtually, helping to enhance McCourt Global’s culture of collaboration.

A powerhouse that propels growth

Known as a “powerhouse that helps the company grow,” Sarah is quick to pitch in and emboldened by the supportive work environment. “Always reassessing what works and what doesn’t is commonplace here,” Sarah says in describing MG. Although her job keeps her on her toes, it also leaves Sarah time to focus on volunteer activities and numerous creative endeavors after hours.

“McCourt makes room for family.”

Roxanne Brown, Senior Manager, AP Finance

A proud mother of four, Roxanne Brown feels right at home in a global family office. Professionally, the high-performer on the finance team appreciates McCourt Global’s “results-driven ethos that has humanity built in” and the stable environment that encourages growth. “McCourt really understands my family’s needs,” shares Roxanne, particularly thankful for the company’s pro-family culture when she needed accommodations to tend to an unexpected situation at home. “I will always be grateful for the support they provided during that time.”

Proud of the work and the people

At MG, Roxanne has elevated the bar of the Accounts Payable (AP) team. When she joined in 2016, the senior manager tirelessly worked to build the team from the ground up with humility and positivity. Admired company-wide for her efforts to ensure that interacting with her function is a good experience for colleagues and outside partners, Roxanne is “proud of the work I’m doing and proud of who I work for.”

Exceeding her expectations

Roxanne believes her colleagues are truly investing in her success. “People here really want you to succeed, not wait for you to make a mistake.” This underlying trust across MG empowers her in her role with the confidence to act independently and collaborate effectively — an essential for this ever-evolving company in which adaptability is key. “McCourt exceeds your expectations in how good people can be. “It’s a unicorn of a job,” she beams. “Once you find it, you try to hold onto it as long as you can.”

“Impact is the common thread in all that we do.”

Alex Kleitman, Strategic Analyst for the Office of the CEO

Alexandre (Alex) Kleitman was destined to work with McCourt Global, as a fellow alumnus of Frank McCourt’s alma mater, Georgetown University, a master’s student at Sciences Po where Project Liberty’s institute is based, and a lifelong fan of OM, the Marseille football club owned by MG. Even more, the global company and Alex share the driving ambition to have social impact. “The common thread at MG is to have an impact by building and doing,” shares Alex, “always with a view to the communities that we’re serving.”

The excitement of entrepreneurship

Being exposed daily to diversified industries “that are undergoing profound change that MG is contributing to,” makes for a “really intellectually stimulating work environment.” Alex finds it interesting and motivating to work alongside people with diverse backgrounds who share the same commitment to achieving results. “Harnessing a broad range of talents and energies creates value across our businesses,” he enthuses. MG’s fast pace is also a great fit for this energetic Frenchman who grew up across the globe and is now based full-time in NYC.

Challenging the status quo to grow

Alex appreciates how MG culture encourages creative thinking and risk taking.  “There’s a clear-eyed acceptance that failure is part of the long road to success,” he says. Along with the strong trust that spans across the company, Alex always feels empowered to “speak up and contribute even when everyone in the room is at least 20 years older and far more experienced.” In just one year, Alex has contributed to the organization in numerous ways, starting at Project Liberty in France before transitioning into an important supporting role to MG’s CEO, where he is proud to be part of MG’s forward-thinking activities.
